FAQs

Here Are The Questions We Hear Most Often

  • Am I able to do my own land survey?

It not legally right for you to do so. A land survey should legally be done by a licensed professional. This is a requirement in all states.

  • Isn't my survey on file when I bought my home or business?

No, it is not necessarily so. Each state differs when it comes to their laws, requirements and ordinances for filing a survey or not. More often than not, the land surveyor will file a subdivision plat and this will be recorded in the local courthouse. This is not a survey, though.

  • Why would I need to get a land survey done?

A land survey is done to determine your land's boundaries and features. Some people use it to embark on new construction or develop land. It is requirement when you are making any changes to the land to ensure that you remain in complaint with local codes, building requirements and in preventing encroachment.

  • How does the process work?

You are responsible to give the surveyor a legal description of your property including title report. Once the surveyor receives this, the process begins by locating the property, marking the corners and providing you with a complete and accurate survey result. The surveyor will let you know if there are any encroachments or easements on the property.
